Usage

This template formats citations to novels, strategy guides, art books, reference books, and other published books.

<ref>{{Cite book
 | author = Author Name
 | title = Book Title
 | publisher = Publisher
 | date = 2015
 | page = 42
 | isbn = 9780000000000
}}</ref>

Parameters

author
The author or authors.
title
The title of the book.
edition
The edition, when relevant.
publisher
The publisher.
date
The publication date or year.
page
A single page number.
pages
A page range.
isbn
The ISBN, when available.

Novels

Use this template for Arkham novels and prose tie-in material.

Example:

<ref>{{Cite book
 | author = Author Name
 | title = Batman: Arkham Knight — The Official Novelization
 | publisher = Publisher Name
 | date = 2015
 | page = 117
}}</ref>

When a claim depends on exact wording, include a page number whenever possible.

Strategy guides

Official strategy guides may be useful for:

  • Character descriptions
  • Mission names
  • Location names
  • Game terminology
  • Production information

However, strategy guides should not automatically override released in-game material.

If a guide conflicts with the game, document the disagreement rather than silently choosing one source.

Art and development books

Art books and development books may be valuable for:

  • Concept art
  • Cut content
  • Development history
  • Character design
  • Environment design
  • Creator commentary

Development material should not automatically be treated as an event that occurred in continuity.

See Arkham Wiki:Canon policy.

Page numbers

For a single page:

 | page = 42

For a range:

 | pages = 42–44

Do not use both unless there is a specific reason.

Editions

Page numbers can differ between editions.

If necessary, specify the edition:

<ref>{{Cite book
 | author = Author Name
 | title = Book Title
 | edition = Hardcover
 | publisher = Publisher
 | date = 2015
 | page = 42
}}</ref>

This is especially important when paperback, hardcover, digital, and collected editions use different pagination.

Citation quality

Avoid:

<ref>Arkham novel</ref>

Prefer:

<ref>{{Cite book
 | author = Author Name
 | title = Book Title
 | publisher = Publisher
 | date = 2015
 | page = 42
}}</ref>

Reliability

The existence of a published book does not automatically establish its continuity status.

Use the book as evidence for what the book itself states, and follow Arkham Wiki:Canon policy when determining how that material relates to the wider Arkham continuity.
